The Graduate Diploma in Strategic Communication enables you to develop the set of skills, knowledge and capabilities required to participate in the contemporary communications environment in industry, government agencies and community organisations.

The course is tailored to advance your creative and organisational capacity and progress both your critical understanding and hands-on experience that prepares you for a dynamic career in a range of media and communication roles.

You will develop expertise in designing effective communication strategy and managing of communication projects across digital and traditional media formats. The course will also advance your ability to communicate strategically to reach audiences, manage an organisation's image and messages, and design communication projects and campaigns.

Our program supports development of your hands-on experience, including project-based work used to develop a portfolio applicable in a range of industry contexts. Work placements provide additional access to industry experience. The course has a number of options for completion depending on individual requirements and aspirations.

Almost all large organisations need a communications expert to advise on corporate communications, community liaison projects and human resources-based projects such as change management. In addition, private organisations in consumer marketing, media, public relations, advertising and digital communications require strategic communications specialists.

Further Study

Upon successfully completing your course, you can choose to progress to the master's degree in Strategic Communication. Depending on your circumstances, this may be subject to you achieving a course weighted average mark of 65 per cent. If you do enrol in the Master of Strategic Communication, you will receive (subject to conditions) full credit for units completed in your graduate diploma.

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have, (a)(i) a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Doctor of Dental Medicine, or an equivalent qualification that allows dentistry practise, as recognised by UWA; and (ii) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent.

Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; GCE A-level - Minimum grade E in English Language, English Literature or English Language and Literature. IELTS - Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 (must include Academic Reading and Writing modules); International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) - English A1 at HL or SL - Minimum score 4, English A2 at HL or SL - Minimum score 4, English B at HL - Minimum score 5; PTE - An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the listening and reading sections. TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT): An overall score of 82 with a minimum score of: 22 in the Writing section; 18 in the Reading section; 20 in the speaking section; and 20 in the Listening section.
