Designed for students with a passion for the living world, this course has a strong emphasis on biodiversity. Students study cellular and molecular biology, genetics, evolution, physiology, ecology and animal and plant structure.

The hands-on nature of the course means graduates have a sound understanding of the theory underpinning biological sciences coupled with skills that can be applied in a wide range of professions. Graduates of the Bachelor of Biological Sciences have a diverse range of career opportunities available spanning across the biological sciences. A practical focus ensures graduates are ready for a range of positions in fields such as ecology, genetics and physiology, ecosystem monitoring and environmental impact assessment.

Applicants must have obtained minimum of 24 points (minimum of 28 points for Law) consisting of aggregate from 3 higher level and 3 subsidiary level. Minimum grade 3 at higher level for an English subject, or minimum grade of 4 at standard level for an English subject. English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17; PTE Academic: PTE Academic 52, with no scores less than 50 for courses with a current requirement; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169; or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 including TWE of 5.

  • Successfully completed 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;

  • Aboriginal Student Intake Test; or
  • Experience Based Entry Scheme.

English competency requirements

  • IELTS Academic - Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0).
  • Pearson English Test (PTE) Academic - 52 with no scores less than 50.
  • TOEFL iBT - Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17.
  • TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) - Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better.
  • International Baccalaureate - Higher level English grade 3 (2011) or grade 4 (2012 onwards) or a Standard Level (SL) grade of 4. Can be achieved through IB Certificate or IB Diploma. Note: IB Certificate does not satisfy ECU's minimum academic entry requirements for undergraduate entry
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency (CPE) - An overall minimum score of 169 with no individual band less than 169.
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - An overall minimum score of 169 with no individual band less than 169.
