What you will study

For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

The course consists of fourteen core subjects, one restricted elective chosen from two subjects, a major of eight subjects and five unrestricted electives or a minor sequence.

Study Centre students may have limited major and minor selection.

Students enrolled at Charles Sturt University Sydney may have a limited selection of majors, minors and electives.

Students enrolled at Charles Sturt University Sydney will complete structured work integrated learning activities as part of their program of study. The opportunity to undertake work placement may be available for students contingent on satisfactory progression and grades.

A completed High School Certificate (or equivalent) with the minimum ATAR required (including adjustment factors).
OR
Completion of the HSC (or equivalent) with strong performance (such as 60% or higher marks) in subjects in the Information Technology area.
OR
Successful completion of at least two appropriate standard IT university-level subjects.
OR
For recent school leavers, a report from the School Principal, equivalent to that used in the School Recommendation Scheme (SRS), recommending the applicant as well-suited for university study.
OR
IT related professional certifications such as from CISCO, Microsoft, IBM and other professional industries.
OR
Two years relevant professional IT work experience (i.e. in areas such as programmer, analyst, systems administration, help desk, network support but NOT clerical roles such as data entry or secretarial) demonstrated by a detailed resume.
OR
A completed AQF Certificate III in Information Technology (including any specialisation of Information Technology) or a completed AQF Certificate III in an area related to Information Technology.
OR
Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) with an equivalent ranking to the currently listed ATAR.

English language requirements

providing evidence of having completed a sufficient standard of study in English

for undergraduate courses have obtained an Academic IELTS within the last 2 years with:

a minimum overall score of 6.0
no individual score below 5.5

for postgraduate coursework courses have obtained an Academic IELTS within the last 2 years with:

a minimum overall score of 6.0
no individual score below 6.0

for higher degree by research courses have obtained at Academic IELTS within the last 2 years with:

a minimum overall score of 6.5
no individual score below 6.0
