¿Qué aprenderé?

The course offers thirteen majors across a broad range of disciplines, all created in consultation with industry, with many being accredited and recognised professionally with the relevant industry bodies. Students can choose up to two majors, a major and a minor, or, a major and a range of electives providing great flexibility in the course and giving students the opportunity to tailor their degree to suit their career aspirations.

Students are equipped with the theory, practical experience and employability skills, including the leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, and communication and problem solving skills.

Graduate world-ready to succeed in a variety of complex, competitive and dynamic global business environments.

Finance Major

For students interested in pursuing a fast-paced career in stockbroking, investment banking, financial advice, and in the finance division of any corporation.

This major equips students with the necessary knowledge and employability skills, such as leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving required for success in the industry.

Learning Outcomes

  • Access, analyse and critically evaluate relevant information to solve challenging finance problems systematically.
  • Apply broad finance knowledge to a range of business situations, incorporating international/global/cultural perspectives.
  • Collaborate effectively in team settings to produce measurable outcomes.
  • Communicate finance knowledge, concepts and advice persuasively and clearly in both written and oral formats, using relevant technology.
  • Generate creative ideas for business innovations that respond to opportunities and constant change.
  • Reflect on feedback and critique one's own performance in order to identify and plan opportunities for development.
  • Value professional behaviours and/or personal citizenship that reflect an appreciation of the interrelationship between business ethics and corporate social responsibility.

Employment Opportunities

Potential careers exist in the financial services sector including, banking, financial advisory, financial planning, investment advisory and other financial consulting both in industry and government. There are opportunities for finance graduates in quantitative and analytical fields such as financial modelling, risk and investment analytics.

Bank Officer, Investment Analyst, Financial Analyst, Corporate Advisory, Paraplanner, Financial Planner, Wealth Manager.

Applicants must have obtained minimum of 24 points (minimum of 28 points for Law) consisting of aggregate from 3 higher level and 3 subsidiary level. Minimum grade 3 at higher level for an English subject, or minimum grade of 4 at standard level for an English subject. English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17; PTE Academic: PTE Academic 52, with no scores less than 50 for courses with a current requirement; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169; or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 including TWE of 5.

  • AQF Cert IV;
  • Successfully completed 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;
  • University Preparation Course;
  • Indigenous University Orientation Course;
  • Aboriginal Student Intake Test; or
  • Experience Based Entry Scheme.

Minimum requirements for secondary school results can change, depending on the country where you completed secondary study.

English competency requirements

  • IELTS Academic - Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0).
  • Pearson English Test (PTE) Academic - 52 with no scores less than 50.
  • TOEFL iBT - Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17.
  • TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) - Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better.
  • International Baccalaureate - Higher level English grade 3 (2011) or grade 4 (2012 onwards) or a Standard Level (SL) grade of 4. Can be achieved through IB Certificate or IB Diploma. Note: IB Certificate does not satisfy ECU's minimum academic entry requirements for undergraduate entry
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency (CPE) - An overall minimum score of 169 with no individual band less than 169.
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - An overall minimum score of 169 with no individual band less than 169.
