Effective communications rely on a keen understanding of culture, both national and international, as well as a strong grasp of contemporary media. This double degree will equip students with both critical and theoretical perspectives.

This course will provide Media and Communications graduates with a well-rounded higher education.

Course structure

Students are required to complete: 2 Core units and 2 Elective units (from anywhere within the School); plus 2 Arts Core units and a 12-unit Arts Major; plus 2 Communication Core units and a 12-unit Communication Major.

This double degree provides students with lifelong transferable skills, equipping them for employment in a wide range of professions, including communications professions and for further study in a variety of disciplines.

Applicants must have obtained minimum of 24 points (minimum of 28 points for Law) consisting of aggregate from 3 higher level and 3 subsidiary level. Minimum grade 3 at higher level for an English subject, or minimum grade of 4 at standard level for an English subject. English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17; PTE Academic: PTE Academic 52, with no scores less than 50 for courses with a current requirement; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169; or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 including TWE of 5.

  • Successfully completed 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;

  • Aboriginal Student Intake Test; or
  • Experience Based Entry Scheme.

English competency requirements

  • IELTS Academic - Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0).
  • Pearson English Test (PTE) Academic - 52 with no scores less than 50.
  • TOEFL iBT - Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17.
  • TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) - Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better.
  • International Baccalaureate - Higher level English grade 3 (2011) or grade 4 (2012 onwards) or a Standard Level (SL) grade of 4. Can be achieved through IB Certificate or IB Diploma. Note: IB Certificate does not satisfy ECU's minimum academic entry requirements for undergraduate entry
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency (CPE) - An overall minimum score of 169 with no individual band less than 169.
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - An overall minimum score of 169 with no individual band less than 169.
